EMT-Intermediate Program - Initial Training
Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate (EMT-I)
Our EMT-Intermediate program is designed to provide the student with the foundation needed to
function as an EMT-I in the state of New Hampshire, building upon the skills of an EMT-Basic
provider. With the 1985 EMT-Intermediate National Standard Curriculum as its core, our program
adds the latest New Hampshire Transitional modules so our graduates will be fully prepared to
practice with a New Hampshire EMS service.
The program consists of classroom lecture, practical laboratory experiences, a hospital clinical
internship, and a field EMS internship. Course and clinical work will allow students to perform
advanced level patient assessment, utilize advanced airway devices (including the Combitube,
LMA, and King airways), recognize lethal dysrhythmias, initiate intravenous fluid therapy, administer
medications, and achieve a higher level of clinical decision-making skills.
Students who successfully complete this program are eligible to take the National Registry of EMTs
examination and subsequently apply for state licensure. Our program is approved by the New
Hampshire Bureau of EMS.
A special note to non-New Hampshire residents: Our curriculum is intended to those seeking
licensure in New Hampshire. If your goal is to seek licensure in another state, e.g. Massachusetts
or Maine, please consider taking a program in your home state. If you are not sure if the NEEMSI
EMT-Intermediate program is right for you, please call our office and we will be glad to discuss your
individual situation.
